Lifting the Fog

Lifting the Fog is a multilayered partnership project developed and delivered by Plymouth Arts Centre in collaboration with Take A Part and ONRADIO. The project, engages Plymouth residents in discussion about their own communities, creativity and contemporary art. The project is part of the British Art Show 7 Constellation Programme and explores the themes of this major contemporary art exhibition and how such an event can be relevant to Plymouth residents.

Central to Lifting the Fog is an arts road-show, which orbits seven Plymouth neighbourhoods from 22 to 28 October 2011 and includes Freesound radio station, arts workshops, apple pressings and film screenings. Tours of the British Art Show are available by individuals from participating areas, trained as guides by Gill Nicol of Lights Going On.

The intention of Lifting the Fog is to engage a new audience in contemporary art, through visual art workshops, training and radio broadcasts.

Lifting the Fog will be visiting: Stonehouse, North ProspectBarne Barton, HonicknowleDevonportEfford, and Whitleigh for one day each, between 22 and 28 October.

Freesound will be a conduit for dialogue between the British Arts Show and Plymouth citizens. The station features contributions from those involved in the British Art Show 7 and artists exhibiting in the Plymouth Fringe whilst providing a platform for residents from each area visited by the Lifting the Fog art roadshow. Participants will take over the FM airwaves to create portraits of communities through the voice of its citizens and the sounds of their locality. Each day of FM transmission will be created within the contributing neighbourhood and include pre-recorded material, live interviews and programmes made on the day by residents with sound and radio artists Mark Vernon and Neil Rose.
